What is whiplash?

Whiplash is an injury that occurs when the neck and head are suddenly forced backward and then forward putting the cervical spine through lightning quick motions and extreme stress. Most cases of whiplash occur as a result of an Auto Injuries and in some rare cases it can arise from sports injuries.

Symptoms of whiplash

Symptoms of whiplash may manifest immediately following the initial trauma or they can take a few hours or days to appear. However, people who experience whiplash may develop on or more of the following symptoms within the first few days after the injury:

  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Headache
  • Shoulder or upper back pain
  • Neck instability
  • Radiating tingling, weakness or numbness
  • Vision problems
  • Fatigue, memory or concentration problems
  • Injuries from whiplash

The symptoms listed above are usually an indication of an injury to the upper cervical region resulting from whiplash. Some of the injuries include:

  • Ligament tears or strains
  • Soft tissue tears or strains

  • Injured nerves
  • Injured joints
